Though Nubia was Egypt's neighbor, ancient Nubians developed a culture and people completely different from that of Egyptians. They had an unusually high number of queens and women played a paramount role in society. Nubians worshipped the goddess of magical powers, Isis, while Egyptians worshipped Ra, the god of the sun.
