1970s Large Parson's Style Console Table

A Parsons Table is called so when the width of its legs have the same width as the tabletop, regardless of the other measurements. Though there is some confusion about who was the first to design it (someone named Parson, perhaps?), there is no denying that it represents the very best of Bauhaus values, functionality and simplicity.

This large “Parsons Style” console table was crafted in the 1970s.

T-Square | Suede Covered Parsons Style Console Table

The Parsons table was first designed by Jean-Michel Frank, a teacher at Parsons Paris School of Art and Design. According to an article in the NY Times, "Frank challenged students to design a table so basic that it would retain its integrity whether sheathed in gold leaf, mica, parchment, split straw or painted burlap, or even left robustly unvarnished. What grew out of Frank's sketches and the students' participation was initially called the T-square table ... " This suede covered parsons-style console table has a glass top and was handcrafted with wood detailing. Though Parson's tables are normally seen in modern or contemporary homes, their simple design would work with many different types of interiors.
